Module 9 Video Review

1. Explain why you selected each of the TWO videos you choose from the selection listed above. The videos I chose were the  Power of Art: 1 Caravaggio, and Velazquez . I chose these videos because unlike artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, and Michelangelo, these artists aren't typically house hold names. I grew up constantly hearing about how great Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo were and still are. However,I never heard about Caravaggio and Velazquez. By picking these videos I was hoping to learn more about them, the untold great artists. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In Power of Art: 1 Caravaggio, I was able to learn about Caravaggio's life. His childhood was very sad, because both of his parents died. I also learned that in his time art was all about perfection. However, Caravaggio did not listen to this and instead focused on recreating what was going on in the now. I also like how he never took the time to draw first, he just went ...

Module 9 Hand Drawing

1. What was it like using your hand as subject matter for a drawing? I personally liked using my hand as subject matter for my drawing. I have recently tried to start drawing more, even though I am not the best, but I could never think of anything to draw. By drawing my hands I realized that there is inspiration everywhere. One could draw anything or even nothing and it could be art. Art is what you make it. 2. What media did you select - pencil or charcoal? Why? I selected a pencil for my drawing. I am not the best at drawing. In fact I am kind of horrible. So, i thought pencil would be best to work with because it can erase. However, I did not erase as much in my piece. Instead, I tried to incorporate my mistakes into it and make it more interesting. 3. How did it feel to create a drawing with your non-dominant hand? At first I thought drawing with my left hand was going to be impossible. I can barely draw with my right hand, so I was wondering how bad this stu...

Module 8 Video Review

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above. I decided for my second video to pick, The Measure of all things: Greek Art and the Human Figure. I picked this video because I thought it would go deeper in the idea of the human figure which the first video talked about. This topic is interesting because there is no definite definition for human body. We all have one and they all are so unique in their own ways. They can be almost any shape of size. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. For the first video I really enjoyed the fact that the narrator discussed the fact that the media's and art's representations of the human body do not actually look like the average human bodies. I learned how this idea is sort of recent. In the past figures of woman's bodies were as similarly unrealistic. However, they were not stick thin with hourglass figures. Instead, they were the opposite. They had extradited weight and sex...

Module 7 Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. Architecture: The Science of Design In this video I learned about the parts of a skyscraper that you do not necessarily see, but can be considered even more important than the parts that you can see. For example, how they are usually built upon a large slab of concrete that stretches out farther than the building actually is. I had never completely realized that the slab of concrete was there. I thought that whatever was there before would be stable enough to hold the building, or that instead of having the slab the corners of the building would be buried deeper in the earth. Now knowing this though, it completely makes sense. One would most definitely want to take as many safety precautions as possible in order to ensure the building does not fall and hurt anybody. I also never thought about how when building these building one must also calculate all of the weight that comes with furnishing it, and with the people wh...

Module 6 Peer Review

1. First blog, Andrea Tasevski:  https://andreademmintasevski.blogspot.com/ Second blog, Dorian Griffin:  https://fundamentalsofartaed200.blogspot.com/ 2. In Andrea's Project 1, she did a great job picking pictures out for the various elements and principles. When looking through her slideshow I was never confused onto why she had labeled the picture what she did. However, like she said herself, many of the pictures could have fell into over categories. For example, the picture she used for contrast is a beautiful woven basket under a interesting pattern resembling bear fur. This photo could of also been classified as texture. Another example, is the picture she used for line. It is of a sailor dress with white and blue strips. This picture easily could have fit under the category of pattern. In Dorian's Project 1, I really enjoyed the pictures she took. They were all very bright and eye catching. The elements/principles she choose for each one made sense and fit very we...

Module 6 Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In the first video, Through the Eyes of a Sculptor, Emmanuel shows the viewer the many steps it takes to get a sculpture. Like with most things, one must make several models in order to create a perfect final piece. One must first make a clay mold, followed by a plaster mold, this then gets made into a life size model. Once having a life size model, the steps of creating a plaster model are repeated. Both of these steps, creating a life size clay and plaster mold, are created by different professionals. After all of this, one can finally begin to make the final sculpture. This step is also created by a different professional. Sculptures can be made of a variety of different materials, however, one of the most popular materials is marble. One interesting thing I learned was that different types of rock have different smells. This makes sense because they are composed of different materials, however, I just never thought o...
