A.) Which artworks make an impact or impression on me? Why? Pig Pen by Joe Bradley 2010 Oil, Spray Paint, and mixed media on canvas 112 x 108 inches This piece really impacted me because it showed me how art speaks to everyone differently. The way I interrupted this piece was way different than how Bradley did. When I saw this piece I was overcome with emotion. I saw it as someone's breaking point. I saw the way that everything was thrown on the canvas, and I saw that as someone's emotions. I saw it as someone was finally letting out how they felt by throwing it all onto a canvas. They then took all of that emotion and spread it around the canvas, not caring what was destroyed in their path. However, when making this Bradley was simply creating and abstract version of Pig Pen from Peanuts. This just shows me how just because an artist tells the viewer was is n front of they, that doesn't mean that is what will be seen. Nana by Niki de Saint Phalle 1930-2002 ...

Final Logo: Sketches: 1.  Discuss what you thought about creating your logo. When first finding out that I had to create a logo that represents me, I was nervous. I drew a blank and took all week to simply think about what to do. I could not think of something that would represent all that I am, in such a small thing.  2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation. When first creating logos, I could only think to use my name or my initials. It was the only way I could make people easily know it was to represent me. So my first sketch uses the idea of how our brains sort of connects the dots for us when we are missing information. I didn't completely write the RT instead I put sections that would put the brain to work. The second sketch brought out the lightbulb idea. I remember when I was young I would always draw lightbulbs for some reason. I liked how they symbolized an idea being created. The third...

1. I enjoyed making my Color Wheel, and Value scale. It was realizing to just take the time to create something. It allowed me to have a better understanding of both, and feel as if I was an artist myself. 2. I enjoyed working with the paint more than the pencil. The paint was more fun to use. I got to see new colors emerge, because of what I was doing. It was interesting to see just how many shades can come from three colors. The number of colors and shades are endless. 3. The most important discovery I made was that many shades and colors can be produced from not so many. For example, an endless rainbow can be made from just the three primary colors. Also, so many different shades can be made by skimpily using a pencil.  4. The most important thing I learned from the video is that the primary colors do not make all of the other colors when mixed. Instead, one must use cyan, magenta, and yellow. This is crazy because I always remember being told that those color we...

Album: http://s346.photobucket.com/user/thomasrm02/library/Module%203 Slideshow: http://s346.photobucket.com/user/thomasrm02/slideshow/Module%203 I personally prefer raw, messy, and uncut versions of art. I find it interesting when art captivates how the world really is. The world is not perfectly put together, with straight lines and perfect edges. Instead, it can be this huge scary mess. A mess most people like to push to the side. However, in this mess there is also beauty. Our world is this huge mesh of both the good and the bad. I tired to show this within my pictures. Contrast: I was just walking through the park, when I saw this Blue Heron. I am not from around here, and where I'm from Blue Herons are pretty common. So common that their even is a restaurant named The Blue Heron. However, I had never before seen one in Buffalo. So as I walking I stumbled upon this guy. The way he stood was peaceful. As I got closer, he took off. This picture embodies contrast. The water ...

Module 3

1. Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting. Color is produced when light strikes an object and reflects it back into the viewer’s eye. There is a large variety of colors, and two systems which can be used to create colors. They are additive and subtractive. Additive involves adding color. Subtractive involves mixing both dyes and pigments. Colors have many properties. Some include: hue, intensity, and value. Hue is used to describe certain wavelengths of light and the color they are named. Intensity is how pure a color is. Value is described as how light or dark a color is. Color can affect emotions. One reason being many colors have symbols connected to them. For example, red symbolizes love, and red and green symbolize Christmas. Colors can also be connected to certain cultures. Whenever one thinks of red, white, and blue, they also think of America. 2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fasc...

Module 2

1.  Aesthetics: Philosophy of Art, In this video I learned a lot about the varying theories surrounding aesthetics. Over the years the theory has changed, much like the art itself has changed. However, most theories involve the idea of beauty. It seems that beauty and art are thought of as one of the same. For example, Plato said "There is a beauty by which all things are beautiful". Meaning, that even if a piece of art is considered  by society ugly, there is still beauty in that ugliness. Carta: Evolutionary Origins of Art and Aesthetics: Neurobiology, Neurology and Art and Aesthetics: In this video I learned about how Humanities and Science do come together, in the human brain. For example, art is made to produce pleasing feelings within the human brain. It is crazy how a picture or painting can cause a physical chemical reaction. Article: In the article I found interesting how the concept of line is universal. It is crazy how even babies and monkeys can identify what ...

Module 1

1. The process of creating a new Gmail and this blog was pretty easy. The biggest challenge was coming up with a name for the blog. 2. I expect to learn a lot in this course. I have only ever taken a 3D art class, and an Art History class. So, anything we do will be new to me. 3. I am excited to be taking an online course. 4. The three things that most apply to me are: the fact that so many people like Albert Einstein were told how wrong they were, when in reality they were the most right, things aren't going to be perfect the first time around, it takes so much practice to get good at something.
