Module 1

1. The process of creating a new Gmail and this blog was pretty easy. The biggest challenge was coming up with a name for the blog.

2. I expect to learn a lot in this course. I have only ever taken a 3D art class, and an Art History class. So, anything we do will be new to me.

3. I am excited to be taking an online course.

4. The three things that most apply to me are: the fact that so many people like Albert Einstein were told how wrong they were, when in reality they were the most right, things aren't going to be perfect the first time around, it takes so much practice to get good at something.

Project 1

Album: http://s346.photobucket.com/user/thomasrm02/library/Module%203 Slideshow: http://s346.photobucket.com/user/thomasrm02/slideshow/Module%203 I personally prefer raw, messy, and uncut versions of art. I find it interesting when art captivates how the world really is. The world is not perfectly put together, with straight lines and perfect edges. Instead, it can be this huge scary mess. A mess most people like to push to the side. However, in this mess there is also beauty. Our world is this huge mesh of both the good and the bad. I tired to show this within my pictures. Contrast: I was just walking through the park, when I saw this Blue Heron. I am not from around here, and where I'm from Blue Herons are pretty common. So common that their even is a restaurant named The Blue Heron. However, I had never before seen one in Buffalo. So as I walking I stumbled upon this guy. The way he stood was peaceful. As I got closer, he took off. This picture embodies contrast. The water ...

Module 6 Video Review

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. In the first video, Through the Eyes of a Sculptor, Emmanuel shows the viewer the many steps it takes to get a sculpture. Like with most things, one must make several models in order to create a perfect final piece. One must first make a clay mold, followed by a plaster mold, this then gets made into a life size model. Once having a life size model, the steps of creating a plaster model are repeated. Both of these steps, creating a life size clay and plaster mold, are created by different professionals. After all of this, one can finally begin to make the final sculpture. This step is also created by a different professional. Sculptures can be made of a variety of different materials, however, one of the most popular materials is marble. One interesting thing I learned was that different types of rock have different smells. This makes sense because they are composed of different materials, however, I just never thought o...

Module 8 Video Review

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above. I decided for my second video to pick, The Measure of all things: Greek Art and the Human Figure. I picked this video because I thought it would go deeper in the idea of the human figure which the first video talked about. This topic is interesting because there is no definite definition for human body. We all have one and they all are so unique in their own ways. They can be almost any shape of size. 2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned. For the first video I really enjoyed the fact that the narrator discussed the fact that the media's and art's representations of the human body do not actually look like the average human bodies. I learned how this idea is sort of recent. In the past figures of woman's bodies were as similarly unrealistic. However, they were not stick thin with hourglass figures. Instead, they were the opposite. They had extradited weight and sex...
